The live-in partner of deputy national security adviser Luis “Chavit” Singson filed Wednesday a civil case against him after he reportedly beat her up.
Greg Tulad, a clerk of the Quezon City regional trial court, confirmed the filing of the case for violating Republic Act 9262 (Violence against Women and Children Act) against the former Ilocos Sur governor but declined to give more details.
“It’s a family court case and we cannot give out any information about it,” he told reporters.
A court staffer said the case was filed at 9 a.m. Wednesday by a lawyer who said he was representing Che Tiongson.
In an interview, Singson admitted that he hurt Tiongson and her boyfriend after he caught them in their apartment on August 22 in Quezon City.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer tried to contact Tiongson but she did not reply to phone calls or text messages.
Singson, meanwhile, told reporters that this was not the first time he caught his live-in partner cheating on him.
“The first time [I caught her], I did not hurt her and I just told her to leave the house,” he said.
He added that after some time, Tiongson started calling him and writing to him, asking him for forgiveness and promising that she would never cheat on him again.
According to Singson, he relented for their children’s sake but forbade her to go back to their house.
He added that when she asked him to rent an apartment for her so that she could be closer to their children, he gave in to her request.
The couple has five children.
At the same time, Singson asked the women’s group which Tiongson approached for help not to judge him.
“I implore the women’s group to first investigate before they rush into judgment,” Singson said.
He said he believed that Tiongson filed the case just to get more money from him.
“She wants to get more money from me even after what she has done,” he told reporters.
Singson added that he had enough evidence to show that Tiongson was having an affair, saying he was prepared to show them in court.
“I have all the evidence to prove that I am the victim here,” he said.
